Finding the Right Hair Extensions

Adding hair extensions to your hair has become a very popular way to achieve a new style or improve upon the look of hair that is too thin or unmanageable.  There are four different types of hair extensions that can be used. 

Which are the Best

Which type is best for each person may differ depending on why they are using the extensions and what their expectations are for the extensions.  By reviewing each type, you can decide which would be best for you.  You may find that you try several of the hair extension types before you find the one that works best for your needs. 

 Clip In Hair Extensions

The first type of hair extension is also the most simple.  It is the clip in hair extension.  These are just long strands of hair that have a clip fastened at the end.  This type of extension is typically made from artificial hair, not real hair.  It can be simply clipped to your own hair to increase the volume for you.  You will need to clip in more of these extensions for a fuller look or just add one or two in the areas where you hair seems to be thinning. 

While they are easy to attach and are less costly than some of the other types of extensions, there are some draw backs to these as well.  For example, you will have to clip them in each time you want to wear them.  If you are looking for a more permanent hair extension, this may not be the right choice.

 Hair Weave

The next type of hair extension is called a weave.  This type is also sometimes referred to as micro beaded hair extensions.  While it does add a great deal of volume to your hair and it is a more permanent type of extension, there are also some downfalls.  The extensions are attached to your natural hair and this puts a great deal of strain on your natural hair. 

The natural hair is put under a great deal of tension from the weight of the extensions that are added.  The person wearing the extension will not be able to wash the hair either.

 Bonding And Sealing

Bonding and sealing extensions are the next type of extensions.  These types of extension are easy to apply and remove but the cost is higher than those already described and they cannot be reused once they are removed.  The application is rather simple.  For the bonding extensions, the hair dresser will use bonding glue to attach the extensions to your natural hair and then glue the connection to your scalp.  For sealing extensions, the hair dresser will plait the extension to the natural hair. 

 Feather Hair Extensions

Feather extensions are the last type of extensions that are available.  This type of extension involves using natural feathers in different colors to add volume and definition to your natural hair.  You do not have to have your hair glued or weaved to get this look so it is the safest of the options.  Again, while it will look great when done, it is not a permanent fix.  You will have to reapply the feathers when you want to change your look.
